Privacy Policy

Effective September 20, 2026

Fur Kids News (“Fur Kids News,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes positive news and information about pets and animals at furkidsnews.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect when you visit the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

We are based in Warrenville, Illinois, in the United States, and the Site is intended for visitors in the United States. If you have questions about this policy, email [email protected] or use the contact form on the Site.

Information we collect

Information you give us

You can read the Site without telling us anything about yourself. You give us information when you choose to:

  • Send us a message through our contact form, which asks for your name, email address, and whatever you write in the message.
  • Subscribe to our email newsletter, which asks for your email address.
  • Leave a comment, if commenting is enabled on a post, which may include your name, email address, and the content of your comment.

Please do not send us sensitive personal information. We do not ask for and have no use for Social Security or other government identification numbers, financial account or payment card numbers, precise geolocation, health information, or biometric data.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we and our partners collect certain information automatically when you visit, including:

  • Your IP address and the approximate location it suggests, usually at the level of a city or region.
  • Your browser type and version, operating system, device type, and screen size.
  • The page that referred you to us, the pages you view on the Site, how long you spend on them, and the links you click.
  • The date and time of your visit.

This information is collected through server logs, cookies, and similar technologies described in the next section.

Information from third parties

Our analytics and advertising partners may provide us with aggregated or pseudonymous information about our audience, such as general interest categories or audience segments. We do not receive your name or contact details from these partners.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We also use related technologies such as pixels, web beacons, and browser local storage. We group them into three categories:

  • Strictly necessary. Needed for the Site to work — page delivery, security, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choices. These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics and performance. Help us understand which stories people read, how they arrive, and where the Site is slow or broken, so we can improve it.
  • Advertising and targeting. Set by us or by our advertising partners to measure advertising, limit how often you see the same ad, build audience segments, and show you advertising on this Site and on other sites and apps.

We use a cookie consent tool to manage these choices. When you first visit, we show you a banner explaining that we use cookies. Analytics and advertising cookies are set by default, and continuing to use the Site without changing your settings means you are leaving them on. You can turn either category off at any time, either from the banner or from the cookie preferences link in our footer. When you turn a category off, we stop setting those cookies and instruct our partners to do the same going forward. Turning a category off does not delete cookies already stored on your device; you can clear those through your browser. Your choices are saved per browser and per device, so you will need to set them again on a different browser or after clearing your cookies.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Site from working.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site.
  • Respond to messages you send us.
  • Send our newsletter and other emails you have asked for.
  • Measure traffic and understand which stories our readers value.
  • Personalize the content and advertising you see.
  • Build and refine audience segments for advertising, including advertising shown on other websites, apps, and platforms.
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.

Advertising and audience building

We want to be direct about this, because it is the part of our data use that readers care about most.

We and our advertising and analytics partners may use cookies and similar technologies to learn what interests our audience and to build audience segments from that. Those segments may be used to show you advertising for Fur Kids News or for advertisers on other websites, apps, and social platforms, and to find new readers whose interests resemble yours. This is commonly called interest-based advertising, remarketing, or retargeting.

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, some state privacy laws define “sale” and “sharing” broadly enough to include the use of cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising. To the extent that those definitions apply to us, you may opt out at any time using the methods in the “Your choices and rights” section below.

How we share information

We share information in these situations, and no others:

  • Service providers. Companies that host the Site, deliver our email, analyze traffic, or protect us from abuse, acting on our instructions.
  • Advertising and analytics partners. As described in the section above.
  • Legal and safety. When we believe disclosure is required by law, or reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fur Kids News, our readers, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If Fur Kids News is sold, merged, or transferred, information about our readers may be part of that transaction. We will note any resulting change to this policy on this page.
  • At your direction. When you ask us to share something, or use a share button to post a story elsewhere.

Your choices and rights

Choices available to everyone

  • Cookies. Use the cookie preferences link in our footer, or your browser settings, to change what we and our partners may set.
  • Global Privacy Control. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser or extension sends it, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising for that browser.
  • Email. Every newsletter we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. We may still send you a reply to a message you sent us.

State privacy rights

Residents of California and of a growing number of other states, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others, have rights under their state privacy laws. Depending on where you live, these may include the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you and how we use and disclose it.
  • Access a copy of that information, in a portable format.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Delete personal information we have collected from you.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, of targeted advertising, and of profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We will not charge you more, give you less, or degrade the Site because you exercised a privacy right.
  • Appeal a decision we make about your request.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] or use the contact form on the Site, and tell us which right you want to exercise. We will need to verify that the request is really coming from you, which usually means confirming the email address we hold or asking you to confirm details we already have. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with written proof of authorization.

We aim to respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why and how much longer we need, up to the additional time your state law allows. If we decline your request, we will explain why, and you may appeal by replying to our response.

Because we do not collect account credentials or maintain reader profiles tied to your name, there are cases where we simply have no personal information to give you beyond cookie and log data. We will tell you when that is the case.

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email [email protected] and we will delete it promptly. Parents and guardians may contact us at the same address to review or request deletion of a child’s information.

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as we need it. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Messages sent through the contact form are kept while we handle them and for a reasonable period afterward. Server logs and analytics data are kept on a rolling basis, typically no more than 26 months. Cookies expire on their own schedules, which vary by cookie and partner.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, including encryption in transit and access controls. No website or method of transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Links and embedded content

Our stories summarize reporting from other outlets and link to the original articles. We also embed content from third parties, including video players. Following a link takes you to a site we do not control, and embedded content can set its own cookies and collect information about you as though you had visited that provider directly. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites or providers, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Visitors outside the United States

The Site is operated in the United States and intended for visitors here. If you access it from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Site, you understand that this transfer takes place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Site changes or as the law does. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will say so more prominently on the Site. Please check back from time to time.
