He was rehomed in June. He turned up on his old porch in September, thin and footsore and entirely certain.
He was rehomed in June to a farm three hundred miles away, for the usual undramatic reasons — a job, a move, a family that could not keep him.
He was reported missing from the new place within a fortnight. In September he walked up the drive of his old house, eleven pounds lighter, pads worn through, and lay down on the porch.
The vet found no chip readings from any clinic along the way, which means nobody picked him up. He did the whole thing himself.
Both families have agreed he has made his position clear. He is staying.
