Firefighters Pull a Golden Retriever From a Frozen Pond

The call came in just after four in the afternoon: a dog had gone through the ice about forty feet from the bank, and her owner was close behind her.
Crews reached them in eleven minutes. A firefighter in a cold-water suit went out flat on a board to spread the load, looped a strap under the dog’s chest, and both of them were back on solid ground before the light went.
She was wrapped, warmed and walking on her own within the hour. Her owner was treated for mild hypothermia and released the same evening.
Crews used the moment to repeat the advice they give every winter: if a pet goes through the ice, call for help and stay on the bank. Most of the people who drown in these rescues went in after an animal that made it out by itself.
