A County Shelter Emptied Every Kennel in a Single Weekend

The shelter went into the weekend at capacity and came out of it with forty-one empty runs and nothing to do on Monday morning.

The push was simple: fees waived, doors open late, and every dog’s write-up rewritten by volunteers who actually knew them. Staff credit the last part more than the first.

By Sunday afternoon the queue was out to the car park and the team had started handing out numbers.

An empty shelter does not stay empty, and nobody there pretends otherwise. But it buys space, and space is what lets a shelter say yes to the next emergency instead of turning it away.
